Following the appeal in the Parish News for people to come forward to form a steering group, 13 people joined the group. Their first task is to develop a strategy that will eventually lead to the long term retention of the village pub and once and for all remove any threat to its future.
Members of the committee each pledged £200 to assist with any legal costs or the development of a “vision of what is possible” from an architect.
At the first meeting held on Thursday 9th November, the group heard that the car park had been saved for community use as it had been purchased by a company specifically created at very short notice to prevent it from being purchased by developers. who were proposing to build 5 townhouses on the site. The group are very grateful to the owners who allowed the company to purchase the site from under the prospective developer’s nose.
It is already clear that this strategy has two elements, the purchase of the Car Park from either the company that now own it, or the Parish Council who are attempting to raise money from the Public Works Loan Board, and the purchase of the pub itself from the current owners.
